Economic Restructuring
Active in seeking/ soliciting new businesses for our downtown district, based on our needs identified in the "Downtown Strategy Plan" created in partnership with the City of St. Charles. The Economic Restructuring Committee, led by committee chairman Jim Martin, also provides services to strengthen existing businesses through mentoring, researching retail-friendly opportunities, such as the "First Floor Retail Ordinance" and business incentives.
Economic Restructuring strengthens a community's existing economic assets while expanding and diversifying its economic base. The Main Street program helps sharpen the competitiveness of existing business owners and recruits compatible new businesses and new economic uses to build a commercial district that responds to today's consumers' needs. Converting unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property also helps boost the profitability of the district.
One of the current action items of the Economic Restructuring Committee is to provide support to businesses affected by construction surrounding First Street. The Committee is pleased to present The Construction Zone Survival Guide as a means to identify and overcome the challenges of the construction project. You can get your own copy of the Construction Zone Survival Guide at the Downtown St. Charles Partnership office located at 213 Walnut Street or it can be downloaded by clicking here.
If you would like to become involved with the exciting changes happening downtown, join the Economic Restructuring Committee. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in the Municipal Center - 2 E. Main Street.
